Tuamarina
- A small settlement on SH1 which is a great place to stop for some delicious
award-winning Koromiko Cheese.
Spring
Creek - Not far from Cloudy Bay and Blenheim, Spring Creek is the ideal spot
for launching a trout fishing adventure.
Seddon
- Seddon has a quaint campground and a golf course to stretch your legs.
Lake
Grassmere - SH1 passes alongside Lake Grassmere, which is actually where much
of New Zealand's table salt is produced.
Ward
- An ideal place to test the waters for big brown and rainbow trout, or drive
east a few kilometres to a great swimming beach.
Kekerengu
- Stop off at Kekerengu and experience the magnificent desolation of this
rugged surf South Island beach.
Clarence
- Located at the Clarence River delta, it's a great place for fishing and
horseback riding adventures.
Momorangi
Bay - A picturesque inlet with sheltered anchorage for yachts. An expansive
grassy foreshore backs forest-covered hillsides.
The
Grove, Linkwater - Linkwater has a scenic reserve that makes an ideal place
for a picnic. Take the road along the eastern shore to Portage.
Havelock
- Set in a tranquil bay with excellent camping facilities and scenic reserves.
There are also some fine historic buildings to explore.
Canvastown
- In 1860, eager prospectors rushed here and erected a city of canvas tents.
The name was coined; the rest is history.
Pelorus
Bridge - A great place for a picnic and swim, or to explore the native forest
reserve. There is also a good camping ground nearby.
Rai
Valley - A small settlement with a big history. The first European settler,
Charles Turner's, cottage is open for a look into the past.
Whangamoa
- A popular surf beach; northerly swells get concertinaed as they march in
through Farewell Spit and Cape Stephens.
